bg/ish: File This Under “Awwwwww”

We here at bg/ag publishing occasionally like to expose our soft underbellies side to our readers. But never the interns! We drive them like slaves and break their resolve with frequent beatings.

So this story out of Germany about Katjinga, an eight-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback who took on maternal duties to save a discarded runt of a piglet named Paulinchen was just too damn cute to pass up. It touched us in the right spot, and I don’t mean in that good Las Vegas way, but better. It touched our hearts bitches.

“Lonely Paulinchen was luckily discovered moments from death and placed in the care of the dog who gladly accepted it as one of her own. Thankfully for the two-week old mini porker, Katjinga fell in love with her at first sight and saved her bacon.”

All puns courtesy of the British.

bg/ish: The Kopp-Etchells Effect

Those of you interested in photography may find this to be pretty slick.

“Michael Yon is a former Green Beret, who has been reporting from Iraq and Afghanistan since December 2004.” While photographing helicopters landing at night, he was seeing halos of light form around the rudder blades.

“Basically it is a result of static electricity created by friction as materials of dissimilar material strike against each other. In this case titanium/nickel blades moving through the air and dust. It occurs on the ground as well, but you don’t usually see it as much unless the aircraft is landing or taking off.”

Surprised to find out that there was no official name for this effect, he coined it the Kopp-Etchells Effect, named after two young soldiers who were killed in combat during his time stationed at that base.

Head on over to Michael’s blog for the full story and a lot more pictures. It’s an interesting read, albeit a little heavy on the patriotism. It’s worth it though, and in many ways, quite sobering.

bg/ish: Christopher Rehage Time Lapse Walk Across China

I’m a sucker for time lapse videos. This one happens to be one of the best I’ve seen. Christopher Rehage walked over 4000 kilometers across China during 2007 and 2008. Over the course of that year he created this amazing video that documents not only his surroundings but his physical change in appearance. Sick!
